The early Alton Towers was a hunting lodge, known as Alveton Lodge (or Alverton), which is the ancient name for Alton.
Charles Talbot, the 15th Earl and his family, began improvements on the house, and initiated the creation of the Gardens, at the turn of the 19th century. Through the early 1800s, 13,000 trees were planted in the grounds. In 1811, major work began on the house. Over the next ten years, several new rooms were built: a drawing room, dining room, chapel, library, long gallery, banqueting hall, conservatory and entrance hall were all added. As a result of the work done, the house doubled in size. The entire building was renovated in a Gothic Style, and the foundations of the Flag Tower were also laid. Some of the architects that worked on the house were Thomas Hopper and A.W Pugin (the architect involved in the equally haunted Woodchester Mansion).
Sadly In the early 1900's however, the house began its demise, when a lack of funds prevented the family from taking care of all the maintenance on the house and it was sold in 1924.
As previously mentioned, Alton Towers is renowned for its Theme Park with all the fun of the fair and its frivolity and laughter. This is by day but by night this place takes on a completely different aspect. Haunted Happenings will take you on a journey of darkness and terror that cannot fail to scare even the most hardened ghost hunter.
Accompanied by our team you will be investigating the ruins which include the banqueting hall where our guests have witnessed some very ghostly activity. Dragging sounds, lights, doors banging shut and moaning. In fact we were so terrified on one event that we couldn’t move and felt as if we were paralysed. Many of our guests have witnessed things here that they can’t explain. Each area has its own haunting and whilst some of the spirits that interact with us seem sad and helpless others seem angry and extremely daunting. There is the spirit of the lady who weeps in the upper floors.
I defy anybody to go into the banqueting room and not to be aware of the stench of beer and tobacco which wafts over us regularly. There are always heavy footsteps which can be heard walking around us.
There is also a door which leads out into the conservatory which if you ask nicely will open and close on request.
You will be working with the paranormal team throughout the night to ensure that you get the very best out of the night on a paranormal level. You will be carrying out a workshop with our Medium where he/she will help you to develop the skills you will need throughout the night whilst attempting to make contact with the dead.
Just wanted to say thanks for a great night, my Mom and I really enjoyed it and will definitely be ghost hunting with you again, we just need to decide the venue!!!
