Ghost Hunts at Bolling Hall - Saturday 15th September 2012
Bolling Hall’s reputation as one of the most haunted houses in England is well deserved. The manor was first mentioned in the Domesday book, in 1086 and the current building is one of the oldest in Bradford.
Bolling Hall was a family home for over 5 Centuries and has been extended and refurbished in many different styles – the most recent being the Georgian wing which is some 200 years old. In 1316 the manor passed into the hands of William Bolling and this family owned the estate until the late 15th century when control went to the Tempests who lived here until 1649. The estate changed hands several times thereafter until eventually it was Let out as apartments to several tenants, before being presented to Bradford Corporation in 1912. It was opened as a museum three years later.
Some believe that the house carries a curse, as the lands have been lost by two separate owners as the result of The War of the Roses and The English Civil War. There is usually material on display relating to the English Civil War including a death mask of Oliver Cromwell.
The activity that we have experienced here on previous investigations has left our team and guests dumfounded. We have witnessed objects move, heard clear voices from areas of the building that were empty and even had people feel physically affected in certain rooms. A figure is often seen on the main staircase and we have even found a name written in dust at the end of a vigil that our guests insist was not there at the start. You are surrounded by antique furniture which has belonged to families who have lived here and even the death mask of Oliver Cromwell, which is displayed in the room where a strange blood stain can also be seen on the floor. There is also the story of the ghost seen at the end of the bed by William Walker (owner of the Hall). This was thought to be the ghost or spirit of Richard Oastler, a keen visitor to the Hall. Many reported sightings have included figures walking through walls into some of the secret passages and noises which sound as if somebody is deeply in conversation.
There are so many different areas to investigate that you won’t be spoilt for choice and we have exclusive access to the whole building for the night.
Your night will start with a short tour of the building to familiarise yourself with the location, before splitting into small groups to carry out vigils and experiments in the most active areas of the building. You will be encouraged to participate in glass divination, table tipping and Ouija board, as well as Séances and ‘watch & wait’ vigils in the dark. We will also carry out a workshop for those that are new to Ghost Hunting so that you can get the most out of the night. Our expert team will guide you through the experience, but also ensure you have some time to explore the building on your own and carry out your own investigations. Lone vigils (for the brave) are not a problem as we have so many areas to use.
Tea, Coffee & snacks are provided free of charge and you are free to use our Ghost Hunting equipment throughout the night.

"This was my second ghost hunt but my first with Haunted Happenings and what a great night it was. I certainly had my fair share of activity, lots of knocking and tapping, a weird feeling of something resting on the top of my head..."
