One of the North West's spookiest tourist attractions is inviting brave souls to spend the night in an abandoned hospital and orphanage.
The Manchester Evening News visited Newsham Park and heres what they reported:
Newsham Park is a popular ghost hunting location in Liverpool where every turn reveals a new fright. There are 99,000 sq foot of areas to explore, including hidden corridors, the 'psyche cinema' and the infamous 'naughty boys' corridor'. The Grade II-listed orphanage-turned-hospital dates back to the Victorian era and has been left abandoned and derelict since the late 1980s."
The hunts are hosted by Haunted Happenings, granting ticket-holders exclusive access to the building for a whole night.
Workmen and security staff have apparently reported plenty of paranormal activity inside the historic building, including distant voices and shadowy figures. Physical reminders of the building's dark history are also in place, from old wheelchairs and hospital wards to mortuary fridges. Newsham Park was first used as an orphanage in 1874, with up to 1000 children housed here at any one time.
Conditions are recorded as being harsh and cruel, with siblings segregated and matrons 'not fussy' with how punishments were dished out.
In 1951 the building's use changed to a psychiatric hospital, but it has also been used as a nursing home.
The sinister tours focus on the areas with the most paranormal activity, including old wards, the Naught Boys corridor and nurses' accommodation. Haunted Happenings says on its website: "You will not fail to sense the torment of those who belong to its long and torrid history."
